(Some) Dems and (most) progressive media and activists talk so much more about cultural/social issues than about kitchen table economics and the vital importance and crucial rights won by unions. I believe this is what has allowed for cultural issues to become more salient and to undermine multi-racial working class solidarity.

I’m new to reading Michael Podhorzer’s Substack posts. I encountered him on the internet accidentally and was struck by his claim that,

”We cannot forget the power we have. It’s not the power of Democrats, the media, intellectuals, elite NGOs and too-comfortable liberals who almost never fail to fail us. Rather, it’s the power of collective action and unions, the only source of durable human progress and shared prosperity.”

I asked why he singles out unions from the larger category of collective actions. Remarkably, he replied by referring me to this essay containing “Outstanding research, analysis, and a summons” as @belf put it so well here. Needless to say, that reply was more than enough to convince me unions are important enough to be singled out and to subscribe and continue reading.
