There's no need of religion in our politics. The 1st Amendment has covered that since the Constitution wa signed. The only reason it is, is because the religious fraudsters and opportunist are after our national and personal wealth, and the position that money would provide towards their greed for power over a population of human beings. Warning! If they gain that power, the religious deportations and Inquisitions will soon follow.
Enlightening. in so many corners of the world, nations are struggling with religious fundamentalism. India has its Hindi Nationalists (who now want to re-write the history of the Taj Mahal ๐) Israel's genocide of the Palestinians is the handiwork of the Jewish Fundamentalists who are tearing Israel (our last great hope for democracy in the Middle East) apart. Erdogan is willing to role back all of Attaturk's advances to keep his Islamic fundamentalists content. Here we have Christian Nationalists who are playing a zero-sum game to control our government. In all these cases, narcissistic, power hungry charismatic men have exploited the desires of the fundamentalists to gain and hold onto power. Now is not the time for anyone who values education, intellectualism, reason and democratic values to remain passive. Thank-you Mr. Podhorzer for this valuable information.
IMHO "religion" is the "third rail" in the American political discussion, today more so than ever before. Trumpism's tribalism and fundamentalist religions feed off each other to the point that they are essentially interchangeable. Like so much else in this "upside down America" the Constitution that was crafted to protect and advance liberal democracy is being skillfully, cynically abused to destroy it. Oh, and BTW, MAGA is a death cult very much of a kind with Spain's Civil War Falangists. History may not repeat but it can rhyme ... violently.
