This article is utterly spot-on! The Republican party should be called the Anti-Democratic Party.

A very important article that clearly shows beyond a doubt : there certainly is a correlation & symbiotic connection between the Confederate States to Jim Crow States to today's MAGA States.

Michael, oh my. I only made it through the text up to footnote 10, but it was enough to thoroughly depress me. As a typical Democratic supporter, I was already stressed out about tomorrow's results, alternating between (mostly) fears of the nightmare evening in 2016 recurring, with slight slivers of hope. But now the latter is gone, I am afraid. Not discounting what is clearly an impressive and important piece of work, worthy of much more time and consideration than I will be able to give it tonight. Maybe, just maybe, after tomorrow I can return, at least somewhat bolstered by the returns.

The idea here isn't to leave folks hopeless, but to be clear-eyed about what elections can and can't do. The pattern for too long now has been, "win elections, celebrate, then do nothing with that power to prevent further devastating erosions to our democracy and freedoms." We can't keep kidding ourselves about what we're up against. (The commentator/professional political class is more guilty of this than base Dems, to be clear!!)

This article is terrifying to anyone paying attention. I had no idea that this evil perpetual political machine has been creating a quiet revolution based on bigotry, greed and corruption for decades. The big question is, what do we do about it beyond voting? How do we reclaim enough power to stop this horrible political maelstrom?

Thank you for this most far reaching explanation of how entrenched the power structure is. How does AIPAC fit into this? How does the oligarchs (the one tenth of one percent who refuse and avoid paying taxes while collecting payment from taxpayers for services that are detrimental to Americans).
